What Invisalign costs in Sydney in 2026
Invisalign treatment in Sydney generally ranges from around $4,500 to $9,000 for adults, depending on the complexity of your case, how many aligners are needed, and the clinic you choose. Simpler cases that only move the front teeth can start closer to $4,500, while full-arch treatment for crowding, spacing, or bite issues tends to sit between $6,500 and $8,500. More complex cases involving significant crowding or bite correction can run to $9,000 or higher.
This article explains what drives the Invisalign fee and what a typical quote includes. It also introduces the other clinician-supervised clear aligner systems we prescribe at Lumi Dental — Spark Aligners and Angel Aligners — which often treat similar cases at a lower fee than Invisalign. All figures are typical market ranges and the final fee in any individual case varies based on clinical assessment.
The clear aligner systems available at Lumi Dental
Dr James Tran is a certified Invisalign provider, and we also prescribe two other clinician-supervised clear aligner systems: Spark Aligners and Angel Aligners. All three are worn, reviewed, and adjusted under the same kind of in-person dental supervision. What differs between them is the manufacturer, the aligner material, the range of case types each system is designed for, and the laboratory fee charged to the clinic — which is the main reason the total fee to the patient varies between systems.
- Invisalign (made by Align Technology) has the longest clinical track record of the three and is used across the widest range of case complexity, including some more difficult bite corrections. The laboratory fee is the highest, so the total fee to the patient is higher. Typical total fee in Sydney: $4,500–$9,000.
- Spark Aligners (made by Ormco) uses an aligner material designed for clarity and stain resistance. Suitable for mild to moderately complex cases with in-person supervision. Typical total fee: $4,000–$7,500.
- Angel Aligners (made by Angelalign) is a newer aligner system with a growing clinical track record. Suitable for mild to moderate cases. Typical total fee: $3,500–$6,500.
At your consultation we will discuss which of these systems is suitable for your case and the fee difference between them. For many adult cases, a Spark or Angel Aligner course can achieve the planned tooth movement at a lower fee than Invisalign. For cases that involve more complex tooth movements, Invisalign is sometimes the more suitable option clinically. The choice is made together with you, based on your case, preferences, and budget. The rest of this article focuses on Invisalign specifically, because it is the system most people search for by name.
Why Invisalign pricing varies so widely
Most of the variation comes down to three things: how much tooth movement is required, which Invisalign product is prescribed, and what the clinic includes in the quoted fee.
Case complexity
Invisalign is priced as a course of treatment, not per aligner. The more aligner stages your teeth need to pass through to reach the planned position, the higher the laboratory fee charged by Align Technology (the company that makes Invisalign) and therefore the higher the total fee.
- Mild cases — minor crowding or spacing, usually front teeth only. Shorter treatment (around 6 months), fewer aligners.
- Moderate cases — crowding across the full arch, minor bite issues. Typically 9–12 months.
- Complex cases — significant crowding, deep bite, open bite, or cross-bite. Often 18–24 months, with refinement stages.
Which Invisalign product is used
Align Technology offers different Invisalign product tiers suited to different case types:
- Invisalign Express / Lite — limited aligners for mild cases, generally $4,500–$6,000.
- Invisalign Moderate — mid-range package, common for many adult cases.
- Invisalign Comprehensive — unlimited aligners over the treatment period, used for moderate to complex cases, generally $6,500–$9,000.
- Invisalign Teen — designed for adolescents with erupting teeth, includes compliance indicators and replacement aligners.
What's included in the quote
Quoted fees in Sydney are not always like-for-like. Before comparing prices, ask each clinic whether the fee includes all of the following:
- Initial consultation and clinical records (photos, scans, X-rays)
- 3D treatment plan and digital simulation
- All aligners for the planned treatment
- Attachments (small tooth-coloured composite bumps that help aligners grip the teeth)
- All review appointments during treatment
- Refinement aligners at the end, if needed
- Retainers after treatment (often an extra $400–$800 if not included)
A lower headline fee that excludes retainers or refinements may end up more expensive than a slightly higher all-inclusive quote.
What the Invisalign process involves
Step 1: Consultation and clinical assessment
Your dentist examines your teeth, gums, and bite, reviews your medical and dental history, and discusses your goals. If a clear aligner approach is clinically appropriate, a digital scan (usually with an intraoral scanner), photos, and X-rays are taken. Not everyone is a suitable candidate for clear aligner therapy — cases with severe skeletal bite issues, significant bone loss, or untreated gum disease may need a different approach.
Step 2: 3D treatment plan (ClinCheck)
Your records are sent to Align Technology, where technicians and your treating clinician design a step-by-step digital plan. You will usually be shown a simulation of how the teeth are planned to move, including the expected end position and estimated number of aligners. Spark and Angel Aligners use equivalent digital treatment-planning workflows.
Step 3: Fitting aligners and attachments
When the aligners arrive, attachments are bonded to specific teeth with tooth-coloured composite. Your first set of aligners is fitted and you are given instructions on wear time — typically 20–22 hours per day, removed only for eating, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning teeth.
Step 4: Wearing the aligners
Each aligner is worn for one to two weeks before moving to the next one in sequence. Review appointments are usually every 6–10 weeks to check progress and hand over the next set of aligners.
Step 5: Refinement
At the end of the planned aligner series, your clinician reassesses the result. If specific movements have not fully completed, a short refinement phase with additional aligners is used to fine-tune the position. With Invisalign Comprehensive packages, refinement is usually included in the original fee; with Spark and Angel Aligners, the approach is discussed at the start of treatment.
Step 6: Retainers
Teeth can drift after any orthodontic treatment. Retainers are used long-term to hold the new position. Options include clear Essix-style retainers, Vivera retainers made by Align Technology, or a fixed wire bonded behind the front teeth. Retainers need to be replaced periodically over the years.
Invisalign vs other clear aligners in Sydney
As covered earlier, Invisalign is one of several clear aligner systems we prescribe at Lumi Dental. Alongside Invisalign we also prescribe Spark Aligners (by Ormco) and Angel Aligners (by Angelalign). Other options are also available elsewhere in Australia, including aligners from direct-to-consumer brands that post aligners to patients at home.
- Invisalign generally has the longest clinical track record, a wider range of case types it can handle, and well-established attachment and movement systems. It also tends to be priced higher.
- Spark Aligners and Angel Aligners are also in-person dentist-prescribed systems, suitable for many adult orthodontic cases. They often come in at a lower total fee than Invisalign because the laboratory cost is lower. In-person clinical supervision is the same.
- Direct-to-consumer aligners skip in-person examination and ongoing supervision. The Australian Dental Association and the Dental Board of Australia have raised safety concerns about this model, and it is not suitable for cases involving crowding with bite issues, gum disease, or missing teeth.
We have a separate article comparing clear aligners vs Invisalign if you want more detail on the differences.
Private health insurance and payment options
Medicare does not cover Invisalign or orthodontic treatment for adults, and the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) does not cover it either. However, private health insurance with an Extras policy that includes orthodontics can contribute to the cost.
- Orthodontic rebates typically range from a few hundred dollars up to around $2,500, depending on the fund and level of cover.
- Most funds apply a 12-month waiting period for orthodontics and set both annual and lifetime limits.
- Policies generally treat braces and clear aligners (Invisalign, Spark, Angel Aligners) as the same orthodontic category, so check your orthodontic limit, not your general dental limit.
Most clinics in Sydney, including Lumi Dental, split the fee into an initial payment followed by staged payments over the course of treatment, so the cost is not paid all at once. Third-party finance options such as interest-free payment plans are commonly available.
What to ask before you commit
A clear aligner course is a significant investment. Before signing a treatment agreement, it is reasonable to ask:
- What is the all-inclusive fee, and what specifically is included?
- Which aligner systems does the clinic offer, and what is the fee difference between them?
- Are retainers included, and what type?
- Is refinement included if extra aligners are needed at the end?
- What happens if an aligner is lost or a tooth does not track as planned?
- How many review appointments are included?
- What are the alternatives to the quoted system for my case, and their cost?
- Who supervises treatment — a general dentist, a dentist with specific aligner training, or a specialist orthodontist?
Is Invisalign worth it?
Invisalign can be a reasonable option for adults and teens who want to straighten crowded or spaced teeth and prefer a removable, less visible alternative to fixed braces. It is not the right option for every case — fixed braces remain more predictable for some complex movements, and for many routine cases a Spark or Angel Aligner course can achieve a similar clinical goal at a lower fee. The only way to know what is appropriate for your teeth is a clinical assessment.
