Dental treatment while you sleep

IV sedation (intravenous sedation) involves administering a sedative medication directly into a vein, inducing a deeply relaxed, sleep-like state. Unlike general anaesthesia, you remain able to respond to verbal prompts, but most patients have little to no memory of the procedure afterwards.

At Lumi Dental, IV sedation is administered by a qualified IV sedationist in compliance with ANZCA PG09(G) guidelines. Our sedation suite includes full monitoring equipment including pulse oximetry, capnography, blood pressure and ECG. You are in safe, supervised hands throughout.

Is IV sedation safe?

Yes. Administered by a qualified IV sedationist in compliance with ANZCA PG09(G) guidelines. Full monitoring including pulse oximetry, capnography and blood pressure throughout.

Will I be unconscious?

No. You remain in a deeply relaxed, sleep-like state and can respond to verbal prompts. Most patients have little to no memory of the procedure afterwards.

How much does IV sedation cost?

From $900 (includes sedationist consult) per session on top of your treatment fees. Health fund rebates may apply. Full quote provided at your consultation.

Will I need someone to drive me home?

Yes. You must have a responsible adult drive you to the appointment, be onsite during the appointment and take you home. You also need someone to stay with you for a few hours afterwards. You cannot drive or operate machinery that day.

What treatment can be done under sedation?

Any dental treatment: check-ups, fillings, extractions, implants, wisdom teeth and more.

What to expect

What to expect with IV sedation

We start with a consult to go through your medical history and your treatment, and to answer any questions. The sedation is given by a qualified sedationist, so you are looked after closely from start to finish.

On the day, the sedation is given through a small cannula and you settle into a deeply relaxed state. Most people remember little of the appointment afterwards.

We monitor you throughout, and once you are ready you rest in recovery before a friend or family member takes you home. We send you home with simple aftercare to follow.
