Orthophos SL 3D X-ray unit for OPG and 3D scans

OUR TECHNOLOGY

Technology

that makes treatment easier.

3D X-rays, digital scans and in-house printing help us diagnose accurately and plan clearly, so there are fewer surprises.

X-rays and scanning

Why it matters

Technology that helps you understand your options

Everything here is chosen for one reason: so we can see clearly, plan carefully and show you what we see.

See what we see

Your scans, X-rays and photos are on the screen beside your chair, so you can follow along.

Fewer unknowns

Planning in 3D before treatment means a clearer plan and quote before anything begins.

Fewer trips

X-rays, scans and 3D printing are done here, so most things happen under one roof.

Digital scanning

3D scans instead of impression putty

We use a TRIOS intraoral scanner, a small wand that records a 3D model of your teeth and gums in a few minutes.

For most treatments there is no tray of impression putty, and you can watch your model build on the screen as we go.

What we use scans for

  • Clear aligner and braces planning
  • Crowns, bridges and veneers
  • Whitening trays, night guards and mouthguards
  • Implant planning, together with a 3D X-ray

X-rays on site

OPG and 3D X-rays, in the next room

OPG

A panoramic X-ray that shows all your teeth, both jaws and the jaw joints in one image. It helps with wisdom teeth, gum health and getting the full picture at a first visit.

CBCT, or 3D X-ray

Shows the height and thickness of the bone and where nerves and sinuses sit, so implants can be planned in 3D before surgery. It also helps with impacted teeth, complex root canals, and orthodontic and airway assessments.

Implants

Orthodontics

Airway

3D X-rays use more radiation than standard dental X-rays, so we only take one when it will change your plan.

AI-assisted X-ray review

A second look at your X‑rays

We use Second Opinion by Pearl, an AI software that reviews your X-rays alongside your dentist and highlights possible signs of decay, tartar and bone loss.

The highlights are colour coded, so you can see on the screen exactly what your dentist is looking at. If something is flagged, your dentist reviews it and decides with you whether treatment is needed.

Second Opinion supports your dentist and does not replace them. Your dentist always examines you and makes the diagnosis.

In-house 3D printing

Printed here, in our own lab

Our small in-house lab prints from your digital scan, so many items do not need to go to an outside lab.

  • Models to plan treatment and to explain it to you
  • Surgical guides that carry the implant plan through to the day of surgery
  • Some appliances, made directly from your scan

Printing on site means less waiting for many items, and we can check the fit before your appointment.

How it fits together

Planning an implant, step by step

The same tools work together on larger treatment. Here is how they are used when we plan a dental implant.

01

Consult and scan

We talk through your options and take a 3D scan of your teeth.

02

3D X-ray

A CBCT shows the bone height and thickness where the implant would go.

03

Digital plan

The scan and X-ray are combined to plan the implant position in 3D.

04

Printed guide

Where needed, a surgical guide is printed in our lab from that plan.

05

Placement

The guide helps place the implant in the planned position.

06

Your crown

Once healed, the crown is designed from a new digital scan.

Also in the clinic

The everyday tools that help you understand

Clinical photography

A full set of photos at every new patient visit, so you can see what we see and we can compare changes over time.

Screens beside every chair

Your X-rays, photos and scans are on the screen next to you while we talk them through.

Digital smile previews

Cosmetic consults include a digital preview, so you can see the proposed changes before deciding.

Questions

Common questions about our technology

Are 3D X-rays safe?

A 3D X-ray uses more radiation than a standard dental X-ray, so we only take one when the information will change your treatment plan. We will explain why before we take it.

Do I still need impressions?

For most treatments, no. We use a 3D scan instead. Occasionally a traditional impression is still the better option, and we will tell you if so.

Does the AI diagnose me?

No. Pearl highlights areas on your X-rays for your dentist to review. Your dentist examines you and makes the diagnosis.

Can I see my scans and X-rays?

Yes. We show them on the screen during your visit, and you can ask us for copies.
