Twilight sedation is a form of IV conscious sedation that places you in a deeply relaxed, drowsy state � sometimes described as being "half asleep." At Lumi Dental, twilight sedation is administered intravenously by a qualified sedationist in our purpose-built suite. You remain conscious enough to respond to your dentist, but you feel no pain or anxiety, and most patients have little memory of the procedure. This is IV sedation, not general anaesthesia � you breathe on your own throughout.

Twilight sedation is ideal for patients with dental anxiety or phobia, those who need lengthy or complex procedures completed in one visit, patients with a strong gag reflex, and anyone who simply wants a more comfortable experience. The sedation takes effect within minutes and wears off quickly after the procedure. Our suite meets all ANZCA PG09(G) safety standards with continuous monitoring throughout. You will need someone to drive you home. Free sedation consultations available.
Twilight sedation offers more relaxation than local anaesthesia alone, but feels less intense than full IV sedation or general anaesthesia.
You'll have little awareness of the procedure, reducing anxiety and making future dental visits less daunting.
You'll be alert and ready to leave within 30–60 minutes, though you'll need someone to drive you home.
Relaxed and comfortable, you're better able to tolerate longer appointments and more extensive treatment in one visit.
Twilight sedation (conscious sedation) is a light to moderate sedation where you're deeply relaxed, partially aware, but not fully conscious. You're responsive to commands but have minimal memory of the procedure.
Twilight sedation is lighter than IV sedation (you're more aware) and differs from general anaesthesia (you're not fully unconscious). It's ideal for patients wanting relaxation without the deeper unconsciousness of IV sedation.
Yes, twilight sedation works well for procedures lasting up to 1–2 hours, allowing Dr. Tran to complete significant work while you're comfortable and relaxed.
You cannot drive for at least 24 hours after sedation due to residual drowsiness and impaired judgment. Arrange transport home beforehand.
