Let's talk numbers honestly
Dental implants are the most Googled dental topic in Australia. And the reason people keep searching is that no one gives them a straight answer. So here it is.
What a dental implant actually includes
When a practice quotes you for an implant, they might be quoting for one component or all three. Always ask.
- The implant fixture: the titanium screw that goes into the jawbone
- The abutment: the connector piece sitting above the gumline
- The crown: the porcelain tooth on top, the part you actually see
Get an all-inclusive quote covering all three, plus any X-rays, CBCT scans, and surgical guide if one is used.
What implants actually cost in Sydney in 2026
- Single implant (fixture + abutment + crown): $4,500 to $6,500
- Bone grafting if needed: $800 to $2,500 additional
- Sinus lift for upper jaw: $1,500 to $3,500 additional
At Lumi Dental, a single implant including all three components typically sits between $4,500 and $6,500 depending on complexity. We give you a full written quote at your free consultation before anything is booked.
Why the price varies so much between practices
Brand matters: Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Osstem have decades of published clinical data behind them. Generic fixtures are cheaper but the long-term evidence thins out quickly. Location overheads are also real. Sydney CBD practices tend to run 20 to 40 percent higher than suburban practices for equivalent work.
Does your health fund contribute?
Most major funds with good extras cover will contribute between $500 and $1,500 per implant. Check your remaining annual balance before booking. We also offer payment plans through DentiCare, Afterpay and Zip.
What happens if you just leave the gap?
When a tooth is gone, the jawbone at that site starts resorbing at roughly 25 percent of bone width in the first year. Adjacent teeth drift into the space over time. By the time you decide to fix it, you may need bone grafting that wouldn't have been necessary earlier.
