Lumi Dental articles

Dental X-rays

in plain language.

Why X-rays are taken, how often you may need them, and what they show that an eye check cannot.

About this topic

What these articles cover

X-rays let a dentist see decay between teeth, bone levels and the roots of teeth. These articles cover the different types of X-ray, how much radiation is involved, and how often they are usually needed for adults and children.

Articles give general information only. They are not a substitute for an examination, and the right care for you depends on a check-up and a conversation about what matters to you.

Why we opened Lumi

We wanted a practice where people feel comfortable walking in. You shouldn't feel rushed in the chair, and you shouldn't have to guess what something will cost.

Lumi is independently owned, and every dentist and oral health therapist here is AHPRA registered. If it has been years since your last check-up, that's fine. We'll have a look, tell you what we see and give you a written quote before anything is done.

Your clinician may be a dentist or an oral health therapist (OHT). Our OHTs are university-trained and AHPRA registered, and look after check-ups, X-rays, cleans, gum care and children's teeth. They work alongside our dentists from the same plan, and if you need a filling, crown or other treatment, we book you in with a dentist.

Questions

Common questions

Can an article tell me what treatment I need?

No. Articles give general information. The right treatment depends on an examination, X-rays where needed, and a conversation about what matters to you. Book a check-up and we can talk you through the options.

Do the articles show Lumi's prices?

Some articles give typical cost ranges in Australia. For our own fees, see the pricing page or ask for a written quote after your check-up.

How do I book a visit?

Book online at any time or call (02) 8599 4700. We are at Shop LG16, Melrose Central, 35 Hope Street, Melrose Park, with free undercover parking.

Do you accept my health fund?

We accept all health funds and can claim on the spot with HICAPS, so you only pay the gap on the day.
